BACKGROUND
The Human Rights Education Programme (HREP) was launched in 1995. The enthusiasm and interest from schools and children in HREP’s work was clear from the start. Therefore, in 2001, it was decided that a museum would be built which would be the first proactive children’s institution in Pakistan for social, cultural, and educational activities that focuses on social issues. Teachers would be able to take children on field trips to the museum to attend workshops, visit interactive galleries and engage in a dialogue about social issues in an interesting and relevant way.

The CMPHR is to be a 100,000 square foot, custom-built facility designed by ARCOP, to be built on 1.5 acres of land within the old Race Course Ground in Karachi. The construction of the premises is has begun and we hope to open doors to the public in 2012. For more information see BUILDING PROJECT

Whilst the museum is under construction, HREP carries on its work with schools under the name of the Children’s Museum for Peace and Human Rights (CMPHR). The CMPHR now works with children from over 220 schools across Pakistan.

AWARD FOR HREP
In July 2004, HREP received the HURIGHTS OSAKA Award 2004 for International Human Rights Education Materials.
