Need: Learning continues throughout life and it is not restricted to formal educational institutions. The benefits of creative educational institutions and spaces are therefore manifold. Yet, there is no institution which offers structured social educational opportunities to children in Karachi.

Need: Education in Pakistan is rapidly becoming socially irrelevant. It does not equip children with the skills to understand the societies they live in, and to contribute positively to them.
Benefits: The CMPHR will provide opportunities to pursue lifelong social learning in an enjoyable environment. Schools will be able to take their children on a meaningful educational field trip for:
access to social learning that is relevant and inspiring
developing cross-curricular skills
learning social behaviour
Need: In Pakistan the educational tradition consists of giving information and answers to passive audiences. Children are taught only one, narrow way of looking at the world, which is counterproductive to learning
Benefits: The CMPHR will raise more questions than give answers. It will open up fresh perspectives for the visitors. This will be done by creating spaces where visitors are inspired to think about issues and make up their own minds.
Need: Karachi has hardly any places where children and young people can go for a safe social and cultural outing.
Benefits: The CMPHR will provide a space for pursuing social and cultural activities in a safe and inspiring environment. Cultural and social activities can be pivotal to social cohesion and can play a role in generating social change by engaging with and empowering people to understand the world they live in and act as responsible and participating citizens.
Need: It is critical that children and young people understand the world and internalise concepts like peace, human rights and social justice. Yet, there is no tradition in Pakistan of engaging in a dialogue about these issues in an interesting and relevant way.
Benefits: The CMPHR will show by example the kind of approaches that need to be taken if human rights and peace education are to take place systematically and in an innovative way. The long-term positive role that museums and institutions promoting human rights education and peace education can play in society has been well documented by UNESCO and other international organisations.
Need: In Karachi there is no significant institution that children can relate to. One of the major obstacles to progress in the social sector in Pakistan is a paucity of institutions that will help sustain work over time.
Benefits: The CMPHR, with an institutional base, will ensure that the benefits of the work are sustained over time and a large number of people, over many generations, will be able to benefit from it. It is also hoped that following the success of the CMPHR, many more institutions like this will be initiated in Pakistan. HREP’s work with children over the past 12 years clearly demonstrates the high demand for an institution for this target group.
Need: For a city of over 15 million people, Karachi has little to offer in terms of family entertainment to its residents.
Benefits: The CMPHR will be a social, educational and cultural landmark and will provide a safe and healthy family outing for all residents. The CMPHR will contribute towards enriching and rejuvenating Karachi.
